FRAUD ALERT! They charged my card way too much, can't get through on the phone, and no replies to my emails. My bank is having to handle the mess.

Like so many folks before me, I fell into this trap. ;(
At checkout, I saw $960 plus $30 for shipping to the US.
Alright, I went ahead and ordered.
Only to discover my credit card got hit for nearly $1200 (!!)
I took screenshots of the site where the prices were clearly shown in dollars.

Customer service? Nonexistent:
the phone's always busy and they only operate from 10am to noon (seriously, just two hours??)

Emails vanish into a black hole - never get a response.
And good luck finding any contact info on their site.
It's MIA!!
I'll be calling my credit card company tomorrow to let them handle these scammers.

I purchased a coat for £442. However, the company charged £475 on my credit card. Plus, there was a FedEx fee of £105 that Backpacking didn’t mention when I was checking out. This feels pretty misleading, and they ought to at least provide an estimate of the import fees a buyer might incur. I've reached out to the company for help regarding this issue, but I haven't heard back yet.

There are quite a few negative reviews from folks who just don’t get it. I’m in the UK and ordered a Bluetti power station battery from Backpacking United, which is based in Germany. I was aware that I’d have to cover the customs/tax in addition to my initial payment (£965 including FedEx delivery, plus £269 for customs/tax in the UK, making it a total of £1234). Still, I saved about £200 compared to buying it locally. The delivery took less than two weeks, which is pretty decent. FedEx kept me informed, and Backpacking United was responsive when I reached out for a delivery date. So, everything went smoothly. If you’re shopping from the UK, just remember to account for customs/tax since we’re no longer part of the EU! Overall, it’s still a solid deal for electrical items.

Like many others, I've been hit with a 29 USD overcharge. I sent a screenshot showing the 'total due' alongside the actual charge to my credit card, and I emailed UB four days ago but still no reply. When I made my purchase six days back, I received an email saying I'd get a shipping alert from DHL. Yet, I haven't seen any notification, nor have I gotten a response regarding the overcharge issue. I'm planning to reach out to my credit card company to report this fraud. I reckon if enough people raise their voices about this, Visa and Mastercard might take action and cut off their service.

STAY AWAY FROM THIS COMPANY! I bought a dog trailer for £286, but they charged me €389, which is way more than the original price since they pre-authorize your credit card. After I reached out via email, they did refund the extra amount. But then I got hit with a £70 FedEx bill for import fees. There was no mention of this anywhere until I sent them over three emails, and only then did they bring it up. They claimed their terms and conditions covered it all, but that’s just not true. This company is running a pretty slick scam, and they know exactly what they're doing.

Absolutely terrible experience, in so many ways. Our credit card was charged more than what was initially stated, and when we raised this issue, they admitted it and promised a refund. Still no refund. The item arrived weeks later than promised during the order. Communication is just awful. To top it all off, we’ve now received a £53 duty/tax bill. I’d strongly recommend that anyone from the UK steer clear of this company. If it were possible to give zero stars, we definitely would.

I bought an Osprey rucksack from this place after I did my homework and compared prices. They displayed costs and shipping in GBP, so I thought it was a solid bargain. But when my order got to the UK, I was hit with a £50 import charge, which turned out to be a real bummer.

Super disappointing, and I won't be coming back to this site.

I got myself a Nordisk Telemark 2 tent since it was way cheaper at Backpacking United compared to UK shops. I knew the company was from Germany, and they deduct the German VAT, plus delivery and import fees are mentioned on their site. The tent was shipped out quickly and showed up a few days earlier than the expected delivery date. Overall, I saved £62 compared to the best UK price I could find.

Top-notch service!
1. They had the product I couldn't locate anywhere else.
2. Even though I faced some issues with the online payment, they really went above and beyond to arrange another payment method.
3. Great communication all through the buying and delivery stages.
4. Quick shipping at a fair price.

Honestly, if I could give no stars, I totally would. This business operates out of Germany, not the U.K. So, be ready to fork out for import duties, admin fees, and VAT on your order (if it even shows up on time). I thought I was buying from a UK retailer when I ordered some ski boots. They showed up late, and then FedEx hit me with a bill for £65 in duties and VAT. There was absolutely no warning on their site about these extra costs. To top it off, the final amount (including duties) was 50% higher than what I would’ve paid in the U.K. I wanted to send the stuff back, but they told me I’d have to cover the shipping costs. Again, this wasn’t mentioned anywhere on their website. Just disgraceful and appalling all around. Stay away!

Review for backpacking-united

On December 31, I placed an order for a pair of ski boots that were listed as available. By January 4, I sent an email to check on the order status. Then, on January 6, I received a response saying they were out of stock and wouldn’t be available until January 27. I replied asking if I could get a different pair that was supposedly in stock. After waiting another 48 hours, they confirmed I could, promising to ship it the following week.

On January 16, I followed up for tracking information. To my surprise, on January 18, they informed me that those boots were also out of stock and wouldn’t arrive until the end of the month. It’s just a complete circus regarding shipping dates, misleading information, and terrible communication. Plus, they still have a hold on my PayPal payment.

I just got a kiddo carrier backpack. The customer support was awesome. When it showed up, the frame was all wonky. They shipped out a replacement. Dealing with them has been a breeze, and the quality is solid.

I recently got a child carrier pack. It arrived but had some issues. They swapped it out, and the customer service was fantastic.
